No Ordinary Lemon Grove
40 acres of land near Balboa Park belonging to James Monroe Hartley was originally intended to be a lemon grove. The task ahead was daunting and eventually Hartley's North Park was turned into San Diego's first commercial and residential district in 1911 by his son Jack and another member of James' extended family. This is how North Park came to be.
